Director of Programs


Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Director of Programs will be responsible for the development and successful delivery of Hope Works programming. The Director will be responsible for managing and developing a dynamic team of community development professionals and volunteers; designing, developing, implementing, and expanding programming; monitoring and evaluation of programming; and promotion and engagement of community stakeholders on behalf of Hope Works. The ideal candidate will exhibit significant experience in programs management with demonstrated ability to catalyze and incubate growth.

Hope Works is a Community Development Corporation located in the Woodlawn neighborhood of Chicago. Hope Works seeks to empower our neighbors to become active participants in and catalysts of a flourishing Woodlawn and South Side of Chicago community. We do this primarily through adaptable and individually delivered case management services with a dual emphasis on both personal and economic development. 




  • Lead development of the Mobility Action Partners (MAP) Program in collaboration with Executive Director

  • Oversee daily implementation of the MAP Program

  • Market programs within community and engage stakeholders

  • Oversee recruitment and training for program staff, interns, and volunteers

  • Provide direct case management to program participants as needed

  • Regularly maintain programs and client evaluation to ensure proper outcomes

  • Promote the organization within the community and maintain collaborative partnerships

  • Maintain program budgets, including disbursements to clients

  • Support program specific fundraising initiatives

  • This position reports directly to the Executive Director



  • Bachelor’s degree with management experience required, MSW preferred

  • 5-7 years’ minimum experience in program management

  • Self-starter with strong ability to take initiative

  • Proven ability to design and implement creative solutions to complex problems

  • Demonstrated success developing and evaluating program models, selecting and successfully deploying innovative programs

  • Exceptional ability to build relationships with community stakeholders and program participants

  • Demonstrated proficiency in cross cultural communication

  • Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills with attention to detail

  • Demonstrated record as catalyst of strategic growth

  • Experience living or working in an under resourced community strongly preferred
