On April 7th of this year, Rachel* finished chemo and was finally declared cancer-free. But while she had finished the fight against cancer, she could not have known that she would have another battle to fight so soon.
Due to the state budget impasse, she had not been paid in months for her work as a caregiver with a home health care agency. Despite working full time, she was not receiving compensation and needed a new source of income.Rachel also found herself in a poor living situation and was eager to find a better option. She applied for subsidized housing so that she could move into a space of her own, but her request was denied. With unstable housing and a lack of job opportunities, Rachel needed more options to change her situation.
Then Rachel came to Hope Works. With a deep desire to help people around her, Rachel shared her dream of one day becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with one of our Community Advocates who listened to her story and helped her to develop an action plan in order to reach her goal.
Together with Hope Works, Rachel has created a plan to overcome the barriers that have limited her for years. She is now enrolled in our GED tutoring so that she can further her education and is meeting weekly with her Community Advocate to receive job coaching and training.
Rachel is getting closer to her goals but she recognizes that she cannot do it alone. The financial support of our donors allow us to keep working for Rachel and providing her with the resources she needs to take her career to the next level. By donating, you are ensuring that Rachel continues to receive the training she needs to get hired.
